is と are を選ぶだけの問題、簡単そうでよく落とす

基本は、主語が単数なら is・has・動詞に -s、複数なら are・have・-s なし
迷うのは、主語がどれかわかりにくいとき

直前の products につられて are にしがちやけど、主語は list（of new products は list の説明）。答えは is
前置詞の後ろの名詞は主語にならないから、of 〜 や in 〜 はかっこに入れて読む

the number of と a number of で動詞が変わるって本当？

本当。the number of は「〜の数」で、主語は number そのもの。単数扱い
The number of applicants has increased.（応募者の数が増えた）
a number of は「いくつもの〜」で、主語は後ろの名詞。複数扱い。A number of applicants have complained.

either A or B や neither A nor B のときは

動詞に近いほう、つまり B に合わせる
Either the manager or the assistants are responsible.
Neither the assistants nor the manager is available.

数えられない名詞は

information、equipment、furniture、advice、baggage などは数えられない名詞（不可算名詞）で、-s がつかずに単数扱い

informations や equipments という形はない

動詞の -ing が主語になってるときは？

動名詞の主語は、1つのことをまとめて言ってるから単数扱い
Reviewing the documents takes time.。直前の documents につられて take にしない

the total は「合計」そのものやから単数で、The total is 50.

結局、本当の主語を探す問題やな。前置詞の後ろと付け足しはかっこに入れる
the number of は単数、a number of は複数、either・neither は近いほう
